First few minutes
Just happened? Do this first
- If glue gets on your skin, don't pull the skin apart. Soak it in warm soapy water, then gently pry it apart with a spoon or a bar of soap.
- Don't use acetone or paint strippers on skin; soap and water is the safe choice.
- If the glue is still wet on the counter, wipe it up with a warm damp paper towel before anything else.
Super glue on a countertop bonds almost instantly, so the first question is whether it is still wet or has cured. Wet glue wipes up with warm water, while cured glue has to be scraped and softened before any acetone goes near it. Quartz, laminate, granite and marble each change a detail, so check your surface before you scrub.
Use a plastic scraper on quartz or laminate, and keep it flat so the finish stays intact. Super glue from a laminate countertop needs light pressure, since a hard push can chip the edges. If the glue won't budge after a few tries, a pro is the safer bet for getting super glue off marble.

6 steps
Step by step
Step 1 of 6
Wipe up the wet glue first
Wet a paper towel or sponge with warm water and wipe away any glue that hasn't set yet. Throw the towel out after each pass so the glue doesn't spread across the counter. If it's a larger spill, leave the glue to cure and move on to the scraping step.
Tip. Work from the outside of the spill toward the middle.
Step 2 of 6
Scrape off the cured glue
Once the glue has hardened, lift it with a putty knife or another sharp object held at a low angle. Work in small pieces and let the glue come away in flakes. Stop when you reach the surface of the counter.
Careful. Scrape only the glue, never the countertop itself.
Step 3 of 6
Soften what's left with a damp towel
Wring a towel out in warm water so it's damp, then lay it over the remaining glue. Leave it there until the glue starts to loosen its grip on the surface. Check the edges now and then so the towel doesn't dry out.
Careful. Don't flood laminate, especially near seams: excess water can soak in and swell it.
Step 4 of 6
Scrub with warm soapy water
Use warm water with a mild dish soap and scrub the softened glue with a sponge. Use the soft side of the sponge on every surface, since the abrasive side is too rough for laminate. Keep scrubbing until the glue lifts away from the counter.
Step 5 of 6
Lift the last traces with acetone
Dip a cotton swab or cotton ball into acetone and rub it in small circles on the glue until it loosens. Keep the acetone on the glue and off the countertop, and make sure the room is ventilated. Keep flames, pilot lights and sparks well away while you work.
Careful. Test acetone on an unseen spot first, since it can discolor some finishes.
Step 6 of 6
Rinse and dry the counter
Rinse the area with warm water to clear any soap and acetone residue. Wipe it dry with a clean towel so no film is left behind. Check the spot in good light before you call it done.
Tip. If a faint film remains, the stubborn-glue section covers what to try next.

Best products for super glue on countertops
Look for pure acetone or a nail-polish remover that lists acetone as its main ingredient. Test a hidden spot first, since some finishes react to it.

Finished the steps? How does it look?
Nice work. Let it dry completely and check it again in good light. Here is what done looks like:
How to tell it's really gone →A faint mark usually needs one more round, not a stronger product.
If the stain was already dried or set, the method changes.
Old, dried or set-in stains →When to call a professional →How to tell it's working
The glue is coming up when the scraped spot feels smooth and no longer tacky. Wipe the area with a damp towel between rounds, and if it still feels sticky, the glue is still there. If the surface looks cloudy after the acetone, rinse it well and let it dry before you go back.
What changes for yours
Adjust for your countertops
Quartz countertops
The six steps work on quartz without any change to their order. Stick to warm water, mild dish soap and acetone, and skip bleach and acidic cleaners, since they aren't a safe choice on this counter.
If a dull patch shows after the acetone, rinse the spot well and let it dry before you judge it. Work slowly over the last traces so you don't rub at the finish.
Laminate countertops
Laminate changes the acetone step the most. Keep the solvent on the glue for no more than two minutes at a time, and wipe the spot before you go back. Once the glue is gone, clean the area with the same soap and water rather than any abrasive.
Stronger options for laminate are in the stubborn-glue section, and only use them if the simpler steps have failed.
Granite countertops
Granite handles the same warm water and mild dish soap as the steps. Use acetone only on the glue, and use mild soap and water for everything else.
Work the acetone in short rounds and check the spot between rounds. Granite is easiest to keep clean when you wipe it dry after each use, and the Granite guide covers the rest of routine care.
Marble countertops
Marble follows the same steps, with warm water, mild dish soap and acetone used only on the glue. Rinse the spot well before you check it, so a soap film doesn't hide what's left.
If a faint mark is still there after the acetone rounds, let the spot dry fully and look again in good light. The stubborn-glue section explains what to try next, and a professional can help if the glue won't lift.
Old, dried or set-in stains
Old glue that has been sitting for days or longer is harder to lift, so expect to repeat the steps more than once. Work in short rounds: scrape, soften with the damp towel, then rub the acetone on the glue only.
Once the glue has dried hard, the acetone rounds do most of the work and a scraper finishes the job. Let the surface dry fully between rounds, and look at it in good light before you try again.
On laminate, undiluted bleach or nail polish remover can be the last-resort step, used only after the surface is rinsed and for no more than two minutes at a time, as long as the stain keeps fading. On quartz, granite or marble, skip bleach and stop with acetone. If a faint mark remains after all of this, that's realistic for stubborn cured glue, and a professional can polish it.

Do home remedies work on super glue on countertops?
Plenty of home remedies float around for super glue, but most of them don't suit a countertop. Here is what to keep and what to leave off the counter.

What makes it worse
Mistakes to avoid
Don't use steel wool or abrasive pads on laminate.
They damage laminate, and steel wool can rust and leave its own stain on the surface. Keep steel wool off the counter altogether.
Don't set hot pans on laminate.
Pots and pans straight from the oven or burner can crack or blister laminate. Let them cool or set them on something else first.
Don't reach for oven or drain cleaners.
Lye drain cleaners, oven cleaners, rust removers and toilet bowl cleaners cause permanent damage to laminate. If one touches the counter, wipe it up and rinse several times.
When to call a professional
If the glue won't lift after several rounds of acetone, or the finish looks dull or scratched afterward, a professional stone fabricator can polish or repair the surface. Expect a service charge, and ask whether they work on your specific stone before you book.
Questions
Can you remove super glue from a countertop?
Yes. The method depends on whether the glue is wet or cured: wipe up wet glue with warm water, and scrape cured glue off before softening and lifting what's left.
Should you scrape super glue before or after it cures?
After. Wet glue smears when you scrape it, so wipe it up with warm water first and let a larger spill cure. Once it's hard, a putty knife lifts it off in pieces.
Can I use acetone on quartz?
Yes, but only on the glue and only after testing a hidden spot, since acetone can damage some finishes. Keep it on the glue with a cotton swab, rinse well when you're done, and stop if the finish looks changed.
Does super glue on granite need different products?
No. The same warm water, mild dish soap and acetone work, applied as the steps describe. Rinse the area well afterward so no soap or solvent film is left behind.
Can I use bleach on quartz, granite or marble?
No, skip it. On those counters, stick to warm water, mild dish soap and acetone, because bleach isn't a safe choice for them here.
What if I can't get all of it off marble?
Repeat the acetone rounds in short passes, then let the spot dry fully and look again in good light. If a faint mark remains, a professional stone fabricator can assess it before you try anything stronger.
How long does it take to remove super glue?
It depends on how cured the glue is. Wet glue wipes up in a few moments, while hardened glue can take several rounds of softening and acetone before it lifts.
